A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
