A Special Release Pikachu Promo Aims to Be Super Effective On Speculators
To celebrate the launch of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique partnership has been formed. Pokémon's creators alongside London's Natural History Museum are opening a temporary store featuring special merchandise. Enthusiasts can look forward to products like plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies that are drawing from the institution's theme. The big draw, however, will be a limited-edition Pikachu card, given as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. The store will operate both the physical location and online between late January and mid-April.
Pokécology Behind the Partnership
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited tome filled with beautiful artwork depicting Pokémon in their wild environments. The concept like the kind of research an in-world scientist could produce once adventurers submit their data, or what Charles Darwin could have sketched if the Galapagos teemed with flying-types rather than birds. Part of the charm lies in the book's scholarly approach, treating Pokémon as a legitimate scientific inquiry. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara together with artist Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.
Why This Special Card Different
The company regularly for The Pokémon Company to release promos celebrating big events and crossover partnerships. A lot of these collector items typically highlight the iconic mouse Pokémon that acts as the series face. What distinguishes this new promotion apart is its distinctly bigger dimensions. While exact measurements have not been immediately shared, availability is guaranteed to be strictly limited, with fans limited to only a single card per purchase.
Limiting Reseller Activity
Per an official statement, a portion of the pop-up items will also be sold outside the museum walls. But, broader availability will only be specific stores within the United Kingdom. Importantly, fans cannot acquire the card via the official web shop. Although reseller interest is a given, the setup suggests they're going to have a difficult time stockpiling large numbers this time around. If you're feeling left out, there is the upcoming fossil-themed display coming to Chicago in the coming months.
"All profits of sales made in the Museum shop and its online store, including Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. This includes the efforts of hundreds of researchers dedicated to conducting studies and finding solutions to the planetary emergency," it notes.
