A deadly train crash in the Mexican state of Oaxaca has resulted in the deaths of at least 13 people, an incident expected to reignite critical opposition regarding the rapidity and handling of the country's major government projects.
The accident occurred on the Interoceanic Train, a line built to link the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean across the slenderest section of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This initiative was designed to establish an alternative rail cargo route to the Panama Canal, aimed at driving economic development in the area.
“We are going to rigorously clarify what caused this tragedy,” affirmed the head of state.
The leader confirmed that, of the around 250 passengers on board, another 98 were injured, with five of those in critical condition. The president stated plans to go to Oaxaca to speak with those involved.
