Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer behind many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, including the soft-colored suits that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including a number of outfits for her US tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles laments the passing to a true visionary whose influence on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
