Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for questions to be raised about his position after another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” the coach remarked.

“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”

He added, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:

“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”

He added, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction

Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell like this with results like these.”

He concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always compete.”

“We’re going to try to get this team back to the top, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
