The Gory Animated Movie Ending That Lingers Fans
Out of all the mature cartoon movies I have personally watched, no other has lingered in my mind quite like the fear-filled ending of a viscerally violent and deeply subversive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
In the year 2015, this Spain-based filmmaker crafted a grim, somber , often savage world with a few small , desolate hints of optimism.
Although Unicorn Wars feels like it came from an impulse to advance the medium further, the director stated that it was rather a try to communicate a global, multicultural message about “the common origin of each battle.”
This theme is expressed through a band of colorful pastel bears , obviously based on a famous series of lovable characters.
Growing up in a society focused on warmongering and the war machine, numerous these animals are obsessed with slaughtering the mythical beasts, due to a sacred text which states them they previously were rulers of the forest, before these creatures expelled them.
A few did not entirely accepted the propaganda, , choose to sample substances or fornicate outdoors.
Unlike their friendly equivalents, these colorful critters show genitals and clear urges.
For a particular particularly cruel, pessimistic creature, the bear named Bluey, the war against unicorns transforms into a path to control — and especially to authority over his more tender, nicer brother Tubby.
Bluey is a bully , a seeming psychopath , and while horror takes over his group and kills his teammates individually, he grabs progressively power personally, via progressively bloody, damaging approaches.
At the same time, the unicorns are experiencing their own horror, through a spreading, harmful creature in their woods.
“Initially, it appears as a comedy,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it becomes a more dramatic and sorrowful film. And by the end, it transforms into a scary feature.”
The Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like one of the most playful features from an iconic animator, that discover a mischievous joy in allowing drawn beings curse, shoot each other, or sex each other up.
Subsequently it evolves into something more like a darker film from the same artist, including ever more explicit brutality and a palpable connection to the real tragedy of conflict.
In the finale, it becomes a complete theatrical horror carnage.
The horror which makes the film a Halloween-friendly watch starts much sooner than indicated.
The Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore fans of gore, for fans of graphic films who want to watch a movie they’ve never watched previously, and who can handle a plot that offers unflinching brutality.
